Winter Land, Swedish Lapland

Lapland, the Vindel River, nature, culture, winter, snow, ice, cold, darkness, light, the European dimension. This is the context of unique winter visits and events in Sorsele on the Vindel River in Northern Sweden.

Snow Magic – Winter Land is a project covering the municipality of Sorsele and villages, located along the Vindel River, which is a protected river running in sparsely populated areas from the mountains, where is situated one of the largest nature reserves in Europe – Vindelfjällen, towards the bay of Bothnia. The project implies a strong involvement of the local population and actors and consists of a diversity of activities that will strengthen economic and social development:

- Snow creations, meant to form a winter arena for shows and plays based on the local environment, local traditions, myths and legends, cultural and sports events.

- Involvement and support of unemployed people who will work as Snow Creators and Snow Magic Rangers and Guides

- Forums for joint planning and for transfer of knowledge and ideas about snow use in the partner area. These forums will be based on complex partnerships gathering the public, private and voluntary sectors

Design, development and marketing of tourist packages based on winter routes along the Vindel River, story telling, snow happenings and adventure activities to promote the Vindel River Valley and Lapland.
