BackgroundThe idea of Snow Magic emerged after an exciting outdoor film festival on the ice of the Vindel River in Sorsele in January 1999 under the open and dark blue winter sky with light snowfall and a temperature of 8F (-13°C).
A Snow Cinema had been created at the occasion of the film première “Days by the River”. The event with snow scooter drive-in, fire works, candles and warming fires, dance performance and a market with local products was a unique experience. Media coverage was massive and the event showed mustering of strength, involvement and good co-operation. Since then, many people asked for a development of this idea as a support to revitalise the area and stop rural exodus.
